**GREEN LIGHT FOR TRACK**
January 30, 2023

The New Plymouth track has received the green light to resume racing after the act of vandalism meant the 24 December transferred to Hawera and the 27th December raceday transferred to Woodville.

Regional Track Manager, Bart Cowan inspected the track Saturday and expressed his opinion that the track was in sound order to resume racing.

In the past two weeks over 50 horses have galloped over the affected surface, with no problems experienced and it is expected another 30 - 40 will gallop, tomorrow Tuesday.

The project to repair the track has gone very well and with favourable weather conditions it is hard to tell the affected strip from the inside 9 meters that wasn't vandalised.

Senior RIU Steward Neil Goodwin and senior hoop Lisa Allpress have viewed footage of the track and given their approval to the process that has taken place.

The Saturday 4* February race meeting is Taranaki Racing most prestigious raceday featuring three black type events, the Group III Denis Wheeler Earthmoving Taranaki Cup, Platinum Homes New Plymouth 2YO Classic and the listed Grangewilliam Stud Derryn Oaks Prelude.

Club Chief Executive Officer, Carey Hobbs is delighted to be back racing, he stated, "Taranaki Racing are very pleased to be back racing for our most important meeting of the year. After all the financial setbacks due to the vandalism we certainly need to have some successful race days. February 4* is the start for us with a quality raceday and a $4000.00 1" prize Punters Competition which has been extremely successful for us over the years."
