New Plymouth Track “Green Light”

Officials of the Taranaki Racing Club were delighted to get the “Green Light” to resume racing at the New Plymouth Track after jumpouts held on Thursday 16th June.

The ten heats were contested without incident and the feedback from senior jockeys Craig Grylls, Dylan Turner and Chris Dell gave the track the thumbs up.  Their opinions plus RIB stipendiary steward Neil Goodwin and New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Track Convenor Todd Treweek who walked the course between heats and were very happy with the conditions of the track, although it was very heavy, it was also very safe.

The news comes just in time for Central Districts racing as tracks have been under extreme pressure with Awapuni and Whanganui tracks also being out of action.

As such the New Plymouth track has been given an additional meeting, Friday 1st July before its big raceday, the Powerworx Opunake cup meet on Saturday 23rd July.

Club Chief Executive Officer Carey Hobbs commented, “It will be great to be back racing, the renovation of the track will stand us in good stead for the future demands on racing.”
