Taranaki Racing Inc Announces Return of Apprentice Raceday
Taranaki Racing Inc is excited to announce the return of New Zealand’s only Apprentice Raceday, scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2024. This unique event, which had been paused since 2021 due to COVID-19 and other circumstances, marks a significant moment for the racing community.
Eddie Bourke, a prominent local breeder, racehorse owner, and shareholder in The Bold One, standing at Grangewilliam Stud, is the major sponsor of the event. The previous Apprentice Raceday in 2021 saw Joe Kamaruddin triumphantly riding three winners.
Anna Duncan, Club Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of supporting apprentice jockeys: "Apprentices are the future of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, and it’s in our business's best interest to encourage, invest in, and support their development."
Riders on this special day will compete for cash prizes of $1,000 for first place, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place. The event promises to be a thrilling and supportive environment for emerging talent in New Zealand’s thoroughbred racing scene.
