Jumper Chief Sequoia and Remarx ran a strong 1200m, the last 600m in 42.8. Remarx bungling the second last in his hurdle debut when assured of at least a second placing and does show promise.
Time honours of the morning went to Roc Ya Sox and Redgum, who sprinted 800m, the last 600m in 39.9. It was a sound gallop.
From the Patterson barn Dame Vera sprinted a solo 600m in 42.3.
The Big Boss and Black Eyed Sue ran 1600m, the last 600m in 42.2. it was strong work. Black Eyed Sue ran a very good race at Hawkes Bay and should pick up a hurdle win soon.
The Millar pair of Tequila Spirit and an unnamed Ferlax sprinted 600m in 42.0.
The final two gallops were solo, the Williams pair of Batchelor Babe and Cya Maria. They each ran 800m with Batchelor Babe last 600 quickest at 42.2 then Cya Maria 42.7.
Winter Cup favourite Justaskme is due to gallop on the grass later in the week in preparation for the Powerworx Opunake Cup in which he is likely run favourite.
